Smart SafAI
Managing city-wide Waste with AI-powered efficiency
Smart SafAI
Expanding the Range of AI solutions
“AI” and “Waste Management” make for a seemingly unlikely combination; however, Virtual Force’s partnership with Smart SafAI proves otherwise. The Smart SafAI project is a transformative urban sanitation initiative developed for the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) which leverages a cutting-edge AI model to identify roadside trash and dumping with precision. While the use of AI is prominent in this project, it’s only the beginning. VF is proud to have been part of a significant civic project on a governmental level. It is a testament to our endeavors benefiting society as a whole.
What’s the purpose of Smart SafAI really?
Urban sanitation systems often struggle with delayed reporting, inconsistent data collection, and delayed responses. Traditional approaches mostly rely on manual inspections, which can be time-consuming, and can be difficult to manage and track across large cities. This is where Smart SafAI comes in: Using advanced computer vision and AI, it can identify and classify waste across different environments without needing constant retraining. It is a comprehensive, end-to-end ecosystem that converts visual inputs— i.e. trash on the sidewalk—, into real-time, actionable insights—i.e. telling you where the trash is and how urgently it needs to be disposed of.
To top it off, the system is input-agnostic, which enables processing data from smartphones and drone footage smoother, leading to a unified, city-wide view of cleanliness.
A governmental project underway: how VF intervened
To ensure a user-friendly experience, VF engineered the platform to normalize inputs from multiple devices, which eliminated dependency on specialized hardware, making it more accessible.
Plus, it not only detects waste but prioritizes it according to severity. High-priority issues automatically trigger location-tagged WhatsApp alerts to relevant area supervisors, prompting quick action. Meanwhile, lower-priority data is logged for trend analysis. Moreover, a live geospatial mapping interface allows authorities to visualize sanitation hotspots and allocate resources accordingly, thereby paving a path to cleaner streets with increased efficiency.
Smarter Systems, Cleaner Cities
Smart SafAI is proof that AI’s reach extends well beyond the domains it’s typically associated with. By bringing intelligent automation to urban sanitation, Virtual Force and LWMC have laid the groundwork for a cleaner, more responsive Lahore — one where inefficiencies are flagged in real time rather than discovered too late. As cities across the region grapple with the growing complexity of waste management, VF’s partnership with Smart SafAI offers the blueprint for what modern civic infrastructure can look like when the right technology is applied to the right problem.
